Blueberry Cortisol Combat Smoothie

This blueberry smoothie reduces cortisol, our stress hormone. When its elevated your anxiety response kicks into gear. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C which helps regulate and prevent spikes in cortisol levels. 

Cortisol is crucial for various bodily functions, such as:

Regulating how your body processes carbohydrates, fats, and proteins

Reducing inflammation

Maintaining blood pressure

Raising blood sugar levels

Controlling the sleep/wake cycle

Increasing energy to manage stress and subsequently restoring balance

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk or milk substitute
  • 1/2 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup spinach optional
  • 1/2 cup ice if using fresh berries
  • 1 tbsp Any Healthy fat 1/2 avocado, coconut oil or mct oil

Instructions

  1. In a blender, add blueberries, ice, almond milk and spinach. Blend until smooth. Tastes best consumed fresh! 

  2. This is a basic recipe that can have added substitutes of your choice. If you are finishing a workout I would suggest adding an amino acid such as 2 tbsp almond butter, 3 tbsp hemp hearts, 2 tbsp chia seeds or a vegan protein powder of choice. I also like to switch it up and sometimes add a half of avocado or coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil whatever is accessible at the time.

  3.  If you are using this smoothie as one of your servings of daily vegetables it is a great way to add a handful of spinach or kale with almost an unnoticeable taste.
